The BBQ Party

So for a change the weather forecast was spot on, the sun was seen by many a disbeliever, the smell of BBQ meat was in the air everywhere I went, or at least the smell was in my head everywhere I went, wee ones were out playing and the adults were walking about with the biggest smiles I have seen in quite sometime.....aye summer was here.. at least for a couple of days anyway.

The wee one like all the other wee ones for miles was straight out the door to embrace the day and was not for wasting a single minute of this valuable sun that meant playtime outside, with all the bonuses that this brings to any self respecting wee one.
The opportunity to get the sand pit open, the bike out and of course sunshine means water is a must if playtime is going to be any fun at all, and that does not just apply to wee ones!!
The adults not unlike the wee ones jump at the chance to get outside and play at adult stuff, you know the sort of thing, lighting the BBQ, dusting down the deck chairs and checking that there is at least one beer in the fridge, left over from the last time adult company was enjoyed, other than the law enforcer aka the wife or the ASBO gardener aka papa! And don't forget the water! Its not just for the wee ones remember!
Everything was sorted the wee one was busy at play, all the necessary essentials were checked off on the adult side of play, a whizz around the garden making sure all was ship shape and in decent order, left just one last wee job. All that was left to do, the last wee job, was make the calls to friends and family and a lovely sunny day would turn out to be a good night as well...double bonus!
Now it is not often you get the chance to have a double bonus day, normally the weather is great all week when everybody is at work turning to rain as soon as five o'clock strikes on a Friday! This type of day only happened roughly three times during the whole of last summer, making my bargain purchase of a gas BBQ ...well no bargain at all really, something the law enforcer aka the wife, is not too slow in pointing out and of course it makes every other purchase for the garden a wee bit more of an issue, especially if I fall into the trap of calling it a bargain!!
Before doing the last wee job, I decided like all good hosts that there was not enough food and the danger of running out before all had their plates filled was unthinkable. The local supermarket was swamped with people doing exactly the same as me.....panic buying for a BBQ!!!! I know this is sad, but I would argue or at the very least strongly stress the question- how often do you get a double bonus day? So job done and more meat bought, now I just say meat, because I have given up guessing exactly what it is that I am eating nowadays when it comes to a burger or the like!
Back home I prepared everything from kebabs to burgers, made up a summer salad and chilled a variety of soft drinks for the wee ones and of course some beer and a cheeky wee bottle of wine or two for the adults. The wee one had looked in once or twice to see what was going on and was getting quite excited about the prospect of getting her dinner outside, that statement equally applied to the ASBO gardener aka papa who likes nothing more than a burger, a beer and company to regal with his vast repertoire of stories.
So the last wee job, a simple job and one that would take a few minutes at most, the phone around with the good news the Barbie was on and the booze was in! The double bonus day was on!!
Sadly err no it was not, it seems that everybody else had the same idea and those BBQ smells I was getting everywhere I went, were not in my head after all, they were very real as everyone had the same agenda, the same idea as me- grab the day as you don't know when the next one will come along!
So the wee one, the ASBO gardener aka papa, the law enforcer aka the wife and I had the job of munching the through the mountain of food that had been prepared in expectation of a slightly bigger table, we also had the task of drinking some of the beers and wine...... It was a job but someone had to do it! As for the diet................
